Scene Photography

During the planning of the Nottinghamshire site we needed to find a local photographer to take some shots for the ‘about us’ page, I contacted Scene Photography, we met up and luckily for us they agreed to help us out.

Scene Photography are Rob Smalley and Chris Burks who have worked together for many years and have a successful, established studio in the centre of Nottingham.

The Walk Cafe had allowed us to use them for our location and on the day of the shoot both Deb and I were quite nervous, Rob and Chris were brilliant at making us feel comfortable and at ease.  The Walk provided us with tea, coffee and cakes for props and we spent the morning posing, chatting, drinking and trying to look ‘natural’ !

At the end of the morning Rob and Chris were happy with the shots they had taken, we had a sneak preview before they went on to their next appointment.

When the disc landed on my doormat with the shots on I was thrilled, they had done an amzing job and the pictures are exactly what we had in mind, Rob and Chris had really listened to what we were hoping to acheive.  For their help that day both Deb and I are so very grateful.

So this week, it was fabulous to hear they had won TWO Nottingham Creative Business Awards, ‘Photographic Creative Business of the Year’ and ‘Creative Business of the Year’, the work that won them these prestigious awards is entitled ‘Night’. The project features a series of images taken around Nottingham in the early hours between 11pm and 5am, they are truly amazing don’t you think.

Autumn Days

I love this time of year, the colours of the trees, getting out your winter woollies and the anticipation of Christmas. Today I took my children and Mum on a fact finding mission to West Bridgford, I have had so many great recommendations of places to visit and I wasn’t disappointed.  First port of call had to be the local park.  I had promised Joe and Mia some play time in exchange for good behaviour whilst we checked out the local cafes and delis.  As they played in the park I thought how lovely it was to visit a different area and to see what was available to the locals, something I aim to do much more of in and around Nottinghamshire.

For lunch we went to Pierreponts Cafe Deli just a short drive from the town cente.  We were warmly greeted as always, we ordered our food and relaxed with a latte whilst the children drew pictures and drank milkshakes.  I had my very favourite, mozzarella, tomato and basil panini.  It arrived with a deliciously dressed salad and a pot of homemade coleslaw.  Yum !

Hello everyone…..  I’m Lucy and welcome to fabulousplaces.co.uk Nottinghamshire! I can’t tell you how excited I am that fabulousplaces.co.uk Nottinghamshire has finally launched.  It has been almost a year since I first met Deb, owner of fabulousplaces.co.uk and have learned so much from her, I feel very lucky that she has entrusted me with her ‘Baby’.

I first came across fabulousplaces.co.uk when I found a leaflet in Pumpkinz, Draycott.  I visited the website and thought how wonderful it was, a beautifully designed site dedicated to promoting local, independent places and producers.  I read all about Deb and why she launched fabulousplaces.co.uk in Derbyshire and have to admit I felt a little jealous.  Immediately I wanted to become a part of it so wasted no time in contacting Deb to talk about bringing the site to Nottinghamshire, not only because we are Derbyshire’s neighbour but because I believe Nottinghamshire too has a great many fabulous places waiting to be discovered. I found out that Deb grew up in Nottingham before moving to Derbyshire 10 years ago, so luckily for Nottinghamshire she agreed and we got straight to work.

It has been such fun discovering Nottinghamshire, I have lived in the County all my life and have to admit I am guilty of not taking the time to learn about what is has to offer. Yes, we all know that Nottinghamshire has been the victim of bad press in the past but what about all the good we have to offer; the great tourist attractions, the outstanding local produce, the amazing people behind the independent businesses that show such passion for what they do. That’s what I want to bring to you.  So, I am calling for your help!!  If you know a place where you can get a great coffee, delicious cake, a unique gift for a friend you just wouldn’t find on the high street or fresh farm produce that beats supermarket offerings by a mile then please, share your secrets and let’s make Nottinghamshire fabulous!

During the year I have been learning about the Derbyshire site, why Deb started it and how she has turned what started out as a hobby into a thriving business that has taken over her life.  I know Deb never thought she could achieve what she has but 15 months after launching, fabulousplaces.co.uk has a huge following, has held 2 FP shopping events and is genuinely loved by the people of Derbyshire.

My wish is that we can bring the same magic to Nottinghamshire.  When I think about the places we have found and the amazing people behind them I know we can achieve it.

So, enough chat…take a moment to browse the website and I would be delighted to hear what you think!
